ABA TARRAGINDI GROUP

Breastfeeding & Early Parenting Workshops

Designed for new and expectant parents, these comprehensive workshops aim to expand upon the knowledge gained at antenatal classes, covering the basic information you will need to successfully breastfeed your new baby as well as insights into parenting. And, unlike other sessions, the role of the father is not forgotten - we have included a special topic on fatherhood.

Our sessions are conducted by qualified Australian Breastfeeding Association Counsellors and Community Educators. We encourage you to attend with your partner as we recognise the important role of the father in a successful breastfeeding relationship. If your partner is unable to attend or you are single, you might like to bring another support person or feel free to come on your own.

Topics covered include:

  • How breastfeeding works and how breastmilk is made
  • Breast and nipple care including common concerns
  • How to breastfeed a new baby
  • What to expect from a new baby
  • Adjusting to parenthood, the effect of a new baby on the parent's relationship
  • Special topics on motherhood and fatherhood
  • An introduction to expressing & storing breastmilk and working and breastfeeding
  • More about the Australian Breastfeeding Association

Here is what some participants have said about our workshops:

  • "friendly atmosphere and useful information"
  • "information detailed where other similar workshops were lacking"
  • "good to have a yarn and speak to an experienced dad"
  • "easy to understand, participative, warm and friendly"
