ABA TARRAGINDI GROUP

Services

The Taragindi Group provides the following services and activities with the assistance of our subscribers who volunteer their time and skills.

Breastfeeding Counsellors

Breastfeeding Counsellors are mothers who have breastfed their own babies and trained extensively with ABA. Tarragindi Group has ten counsellors, one of them is present at every meeting to answer any questions and are available on the phone at other times.

Breast Pump Hire

We have a number of electric breast pumps which can be hired by both subscribers and non-subscribers (click here for our breast pump hire details). A milk collection kit, which can be used as a manual pump, is necessary and can be purchased through ABA. A security deposit is also charged. ABA breast pumps are always hired out by a Breastfeeding Counsellor, who can help with reassurance and information. Please contact Simone for more information.

Library

Currently there are many books held in the library for borrowing by subscribers. There is some excellent reading for breastfeeding mothers and parents of all stages. They cover many different topics including breastfeeding, night-time parenting, childcare and development and women's issues.

Community Education

Our counsellors and Community Educators promote breastfeeding awareness through talks to community groups and school visits, as well as providing information sessions for groups of new mothers. School visits usually include a demonstration of bathing as well as feeding the baby.

Breastfeeding Classes

The Tarragindi group conducts regular breastfeeding and early parenting workshops at the Sunnybank Private Hospital. These sessions are designed for new and expectant parents, and aim to expand upon the knowledge gained at antenatal classes, covering information on breastfeeding, what to expect from a new baby, adjusting to parenthood, the effect of a new baby on the parent's relationship and the role of fathers/partners in breastfeeding.

Hospital Visits

Our group visits new mothers at the Mater Hospital in South Brisbane to provide them with breastfeeding handouts and details of local groups.

Baby Change Tent

Our group can provide (and staff) a baby change tent at local events, such as the annual Moorooka festival where parents can change and feed their children.

What else do we do?

We produce a half-yearly Bulletin which contains our meeting dates, group news and some articles.
